(1) The panic alarm is reassuring and is really very loud (2) You can roughly measure the distance with the step counter. The machine itself is very easy and intuitive to use. The functions referred to in the description are easy to use and mostly they are useful. The holder works very well for me. It is however not a cheap machine but is reliable when compared to other step counters I have used. Be careful if you want to use it as an "activity monitor" during the day as it not only counts steps but also any other shakes. This means that distances and calorie usage are no longer correct.
